As part of the month of improvement on April 15, a city-wide community work day will be held in the capital of Russia, said Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Housing and Communal Services and Improvement Petr Biryukov.
Biryukov said that employees will take part in the subbotnik City economy complexas well as employees of enterprises and organizations, schoolchildren, students and other residents of the capital.
“Work is planned to clean up parks and squares, courtyards, public spaces,” Biryukov said. According to him, landscaping activities will also be carried out, including planting trees and shrubs. The necessary equipment and planting materials have already been prepared, the deputy mayor said.
The tradition of holding subbotniks has existed in Moscow since 1919, the first of which took place on April 12. Initially, the event was something like a “flash mob”, but on May 1, 1920, the first All-Russian subbotnik took place, reports mos.ru. From the 1930s until the 1990s, subbotniks were compulsory.
On the subbotnik, it is proposed to wear clothes that do not hinder movement and that you do not mind getting dirty. The same goes for shoes.
