The famous skier and biathlete Anfisa Reztsova died in intensive care without regaining consciousness. She was 58 years old. The official causes of death are unknown. TASS reports this with reference to the athlete’s ex-husband Leonid Reztsov.
Anfisa Reztsova is the world’s only Olympic champion in both biathlon and cross-country skiing. For a long time, she was the only athlete who was able to win gold at the Winter Olympic Games in different disciplines. Only in 2018, her unique achievement was repeated by the representative of the Czech Republic, Ester Ledeckaya, who became the first at the Olympics in Pyeongchang in alpine skiing and snowboarding.
Reztsova was hospitalized on October 15, but information about this appeared only after her death, on October 20. Relatives will only be able to receive medical documents and a death certificate on the afternoon of Saturday, October 21.
Reztsova had serious health problems back in the spring. In March, the athlete suffered a heart attack. She was discharged from the hospital in mid-April.
