Frenchman Sébastien Ogier will be at the start of the New Zealand rally, 11th round of the World Rally Championship (WRC), from September 29 to October 2, the Toyota team announced on social media on Sunday morning. Toyota will field four cars in New Zealand, including one for likely future world champion Kalle Rovanperä of Finland, 21, who has already won five times this season, in nine rounds, and has a 72-point lead on the Estonian Ott Tänak (Hyundai). Eight-time world champion, Ogier had only planned to run a few events this season. He has not driven in the WRC since the Safari Rally in Kenya, where he took 4th place at the end of June.

His former rival Sébastien Loeb, nine times crowned in the WRC, is also a “freelancer” this year. He won Monte Carlo at the season opener, then dropped out in Portugal and finished 8th in Kenya. Loeb will be back next weekend for the Acropolis Rally in Greece, round 10 of the season.
