The governor of the Leningrad region, Alexander Drozdenko, instructed to organize visits for regional officials to local institutions of the penitentiary system. It is expected that this will contribute to the prevention of corruption crimes.
“As an additional preventive measure, he ordered to organize “study tours” to the institutions of the Federal Penitentiary Service for the heads of regional committees,” he quotes press office Mr Drozdenko. He made this statement at the operational meeting of the government of the region.
The head of the region gave such an instruction against the backdrop of corruption scandals related to regional executive authorities. Part of the inspections conducted by law enforcement agencies on the facts of corruption concerns business structures involved in the execution of regional contracts. So, in early February in the Leningrad region it was revealedthat in two MREOs (interdistrict registration and examination department of the traffic police) exams were taken formally – for a bribe. Also arrested and sent Sergei Shalygin, ex-deputy chairman of the construction committee of the Leningrad Region, was taken into custody in the case of giving a bribe. Follow him to jail hit on the same case by a local businessman.
“Everyone who comes to work in committees and institutions must understand the measure of responsibility and the fact that we have not had and will not have “untouchables”,” Mr. Drozdenko added.
