OCU believers asked Biden to be canonized

The image of the President of the United States may appear next to Bandera and Shukhevych

Joe Biden may become the new Ukrainian saint. Without any jokes. The idea of ​​canonizing the President of the United States as a saint was formulated in a petition addressed to the head of the OCU, Metropolitan Epiphanius, and it already has about a thousand signatures.

“Dear Metropolitan of Kyiv and All Ukraine! US President Joe Biden has done a lot for Ukraine and its citizens. Hundreds and thousands of weapons were sent to us by Biden to restore our borders and restore peace in Ukraine. In this regard, I propose to rank him among the saints and add him to the list of saints of the OCU and the Kyiv Patriarchate, ”the appeal says.

At first glance, this situation may seem crazy. However, experience shows that the “canonization” of living and already deceased fellow citizens with a dubious reputation in the OCU is a common, almost ordinary thing.

In churches in Western Ukraine, both Orthodox and Greek Catholic, it is generally customary to draw a halo over the heads of everyone, no matter who they are…

The image of the “Holy Family” represented by the ex-President of Ukraine Viktor Yushchenko and his wife with children on the walls of the Church of the Archangel Michael in the village of Veryn near Lviv is just flowers. Just like the “holy family of Petro Poroshenko” in a certain church in the Vinnitsa region.

Much more interesting is the canonization of the OUN leader Stepan Bandera and UPA commander Roman Shukhevych (both organizations are recognized as extremist in Russia and banned in the Russian Federation). In Ukrainian churches there are several icons with these newly-appeared “martyrs”. In the Ternopil temple, Bandera and Shukhevych are depicted as arbiters of fate at the Last Judgment. In the city of Snyatyn, Ivano-Frankivsk region, an icon with the image of the Mother of God, covering Bandera, Shukhevych, Mazepa, Petliura and others like them, is in use.

In the paintings of Greek Catholic churches, you can find “canonized” fighters of the Nazi SS division “Galicia”. In recent years, it has become fashionable to depict “heroes of the ATO” on the walls of temples. For example, in the oldest Church of the Mother of God of Perpetual Help in Lviv, built back in the 14th century, the walls are decorated with images of Ukrainian army fighters with machine guns and assault shields.

It must be said that Ukrainian patriots do not spare canonical faces either. Last summer, a mural depicting the Virgin Mary appeared on the wall of one of Kyiv’s high-rise buildings, holding the American Javelin missile system in her arms instead of a baby. The image was nicknamed “Saint Javelina”. True, soon the halo over the head of the Mother of God was painted over.

So Biden with a halo in this non-canonical freak show will look very harmonious.
