According to RIA Novosti, the information that the Gulf Stream will “stop” in the next 25 years is an information hoax. Acting Director of the Institute of Oceanology named after. P.P. Shirshov of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Vladimir Shevchenko, confirmed this information.
In July this year, several publications reported the possible collapse of the Atlantic Meridional Circulation, including the Gulf Stream, due to global warming between 2025 and 2095.
However, Shevchenko noted that the report of Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences Alexei Sokov, based on the institute’s observations for more than 20 years, did not find any evidence of changes in the speed of the Gulf Stream.
Earlier, US President Joe Biden declared global warming as the main existential threat to humanity, surpassing even nuclear war.
However, scientists from the Swiss Paul Scherrer Institute, in collaboration with colleagues from China, the USA, Sweden, Ireland and Finland, have created a climate model on a supercomputer that predicts the possibility of a climate catastrophe on Earth.
So, the information about the “stopping” of the Gulf Stream in the next 25 years is false, and observations do not confirm such changes.
