National Football League star and actor Oriental James Simpson passed away yesterday, April 10th. His family reported this.
“On April 10, our father, Oriental James Simpson, lost his battle with cancer. He was surrounded by his children and grandchildren. During this difficult time, his family asks that you please respect their wishes for privacy and compassion – Simpson Family,” the X statement read.
In addition to his numerous sports achievements and film roles, O. J. Simpson is known for his high-profile criminal case in the mid-1990s. He was accused of killing his ex-wife Nicole Brown-Simpson and her lover Ronald Goldman. In October 1995, a criminal court found Simpson not guilty of murder. However, in early 1997, a civil court found him guilty of unlawful deprivation of life, for which Simpson was fined $33.5 million.
In 2007, Simpson and a group of accomplices broke into the hotel room of a sports trophy dealer and, at gunpoint, forced him to give him the cups that he had previously won and which, according to Simpson, were stolen from him. And in 2008, he ended up in prison: a Las Vegas court sentenced him to 33 years in prison for armed robbery and kidnapping.
He was pardoned in June 2017 and was released from prison in October of that year.
In February of this year, it became known that Simpson was undergoing treatment for prostate cancer.
