All-Russian sambo competitions started in Orel

All-Russian sambo competitions dedicated to the memory of the heroic feat of paratroopers of the 6th company of the Airborne Forces have started in the city of Orel. This respected tournament, the third in the Oryol region, attracted the participation of young athletes aged 14 to 16 years from more than 10 regions of Russia.
Competitions will be held among boys and girls in nine weight categories, and awards will be awarded to the winners. The opening ceremony of the tournament was attended by the President of the Sambo Federation of the Oryol Region, Anatoly Yakunin, and the Chairman of the Regional Council, Secretary of the ORO “ER” Leonid Muzalevsky. The event takes place at the Youth of Russia Sports Palace.
Let us recall that the feat of the paratroopers of the 6th Airborne Company, known as the “Battle at Height 776,” occurred during the Second Chechen War. 90 paratroopers from Pskov fought with a huge number of militants at the Ulus-Kert – Selmentauzen line. This battle left only six soldiers alive after 19 hours of intense fighting. These heroes sacrificed their lives to prevent terrorists from entering Dagestan, their valor and self-sacrifice will forever remain in the memory and hearts of Russians.
