The American newspaper The New York Times reports in its article that Russia is preparing to test an experimental cruise missile with a nuclear engine.
The flight range of such a missile, according to sources, can be thousands of kilometers.
For the first time, Russian President Vladimir Putin spoke about this missile on March 1, 2018, during his address to the Federal Assembly. And on March 22, the rocket received the name “Burevestnik”.
In terms of dimensions, the Burevestnik is comparable to the Kh-101 missile, but its flight range is tens of times higher.
Open data reported that, given the extremely long maneuvering time, the missile has a high chance of overcoming air defense and missile defense lines.
The NYT draws its conclusions based on data on the movement of aircraft and vehicles in the area of the Pankov training ground on Novaya Zemlya, where tests of these weapons had probably already been carried out previously.
