The decision of a number of European Union countries to ban the entry of cars with Russian license plates is called Nazism, said Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.

“I was amazed at how quickly the Europeans, practically all of them, lost the external good looks with which they had been hiding behind in recent years, preserving for themselves some remnants of not only diplomacy, but also elementary ethics. In general, this is a manifestation of what is commonly called Nazism. The same applies to Russians only,” said Lavrov to journalists following the 20th annual meeting of the Valdai Club.

Earlier today, presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov named decisions of the EU countries are absurd, specifying that they will negatively affect the “already in a deplorable state” relations with Moscow. When asked whether there would be any retaliatory actions, Peskov said that Russia should do what is best for it, and “not every time it should be a mirror reaction.”

Earlier, Poland, Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, Finland, Norway, and Bulgaria announced that they were introducing a ban on the entry of passenger cars with Russian registration. They refer to Art. 3i of EU Council Regulation No. 833/2014, which prohibits the import of a number of goods from Russia into the member states of the union.

Two seizures were also reported. One occurred in Germany. The second incident, in the Czech Republic, was reported on October 2, with reference to the response of the German Ministry of Finance to Bundestag deputy Evgeniy Schmidt, in the Izvestia newspaper. However RBC at the main customs department of the country statedthat Czech customs did not confiscate a single Russian car.
