The operator of the MIR payment system, the National Payment Card System (NSPK), will charge banks for SMS confirmation when making online purchases. About it writes “Kommersant”.

With this decision, NSPK plans to motivate banks to switch to a more modern authentication system. Banks will have to determine from which device the user entered the site, which will speed up and simplify the payment process.

Commission for banks and issuers will be 20 kopecks. for one confirmation. If the site was visited not through an Internet browser, but through a mobile application, then for the acquirer it will be 10 kopecks. At the same time, the commission will not be able to exceed 2.5 million rubles.

NSPK told Kommersant that payment without SMS confirmation is cheaper for banks and easier for the cardholder. Transaction security is checked by various methods to determine the device as the main one. Verification of devices will be the responsibility of the payment system or bank. Commissions are planned to be introduced from October 2023.
