The novels of the writer Elena Kotova are distinguished by such knowledge of life that if they were read, the fate of the country and the world could be different. With the knowledge of Kotova, it is simply impossible to get into a situation where Russia is forced to fight on two fronts, inside and outside the country, with some shadow of who knows what in the form of a consolidated world evil.

The mechanism for implementing a hybrid proxy war with penetration into the mentality of its organizer, which is inaccessible to us, is the subject of the novels Newton’s Third Apple and Provocation. The morals of the world of oligarchs are described in the novel “Code of dishonor”. Where did the author Kotova herself come from, the novel “Half-life” is dedicated to this.

Characteristically, Elena Kotova writes lightly and with humor about the irresistible and seriously about what else can be somehow corrected. The characters are fictional, but their features are recognizable and the events are real. “I don’t write what I don’t know about,” Kotova said.

And then another novel by Elena Kotova appeared, “Half Light: A Terribly Funny Novel”. To say that it fills a gap is an understatement, although it is. The novel describes the Israeli party of so-called business people, businessmen. They are all in their fifties and some in their sixties. The youngest, Zoya, at the age of 34, entered the party with the role of a mistress and made a complete trash in a company that lives on the principle of “loot conquers evil.”

The backbone of the party is, in general, not the oligarchs, they are interrupted by some trifle from a million to a million. And they don’t really hold on to anything, except for real estate in common with their wives and children. They don’t lead to a divorce in order to avoid sharing.

Some wives are half-formed. Each and every one has a spare pair in two or three countries. In the party there are young hangers-on of a universal purpose, in front of which one can unleash the fluffy tails of ambition with an exorbitant sense of self-worth.

People of the half world in the company of Elena Kotova adhere to traditional sexual orientation. They do not use homosexual relationships for personal success, as is often the case now. At the same time, they treat with contempt the traditional family of rogues with stable relationships, sentenced to rest in the country, where they go in old Zhiguli, and the children are sent to a regular school.

The child must study at Oxford. It is necessary to have a rest abroad, specifically in Israel. Pastime – chatting, texting and drinking. Rest in Russia zapadlo. The main thing is the loot, and it must be done in Moscow. For the production of dough, Moscow is the best city in the world.

At first it is difficult to understand who Vasya is to whom, then the scheme of intricate relationships quickly becomes clear.

In the annotation, the genre of Elena Kotova’s work is defined as “long read novel”. The book is really written in the style of a digital format, replete with the vocabulary of social networks and instant messengers. The narrative is very similar to the scrolling correspondence of characters who live in their iPhones, and life passes as if in the background (accidental pun, but also reveals some aspect: you cannot achieve depth by sliding over the surface). In reality, the life of the heroes is in full swing, everyone constantly has “thrash” and “fuckup”, but still the main thing is to urgently share this, especially if the “thrash” is not with you, but with someone else …

One of the heroines, Cornelia (nicknamed Cookie), even offers to write a script for a series about their life – you don’t even have to invent anything:

“Write a script_emoji_face_with_round_eyes,” Cookie shot. “Persuade Vanya, I have a fakap_emoji_grinning_devil,” answered Marusya. “Santa Barbara in Russian or new Russians also cry”? Vanechka laughed. – We don’t even pull on new Russians, we are ordinary – upper middie class.

We are the world! You say, demi-light – I also agree. It’s even better, it’s a subtle self-irony. We are cool gouging, and everyone has a life – a whole season. Everyone has double-triple relationships, everyone has wars, intrigues, wiring … “

“Their show will be much better than Santa Barbara. In serials, stories are invented, and in their small universe everything is authentic, it is enough to change the lighting of circumstances, on which the action depends much more than on the circumstances themselves. And the characters’ personalities do not affect anything at all, they all look the same. All people are intelligent and kind, but to put a trick in between things is like hello … The series will be avant-garde already because its meta-idea is the most important task of each hero at any cost to obtain a second citizenship.

Dialogues take place in specific slang. In fact, the Russian language of the demi-world is on the path of evolution of American English with the development of a register of derogatory vocabulary with gender.

It is not customary to take something seriously, especially work. It’s called “getting bored”. And whoever bothers, he is subjected to scornful condemnation, because he is a sucker and cannot belong to a high crowd of smart people.

Everyone has several passports from different countries in their pocket. Countries are ranked by prestige. Germany was at the end of the list as the successor to the scoop. An important question, why do readers need to know about this, in the bulk of employees living from paycheck to paycheck? It’s very simple, these are the actual employers of a huge number of people who did not get into the oligarch’s enterprise or, by education, did not reach a reliable place in a state corporation or bank.

Perhaps even more depends on employers from the half world than on the state-oligarchic ligament. And much less responsibility. Many so-called journalists, bloggers-influencers, some especially resourceful teachers, chief editors of national newspapers belong to the demimonde. They, as they say, make the weather for society.

We have a special interest, we need to know the work to understand the situation and its historical roots. We are not as squeamish as the author.

We are disgusted by the squeamish attitude to our own work, described by Kotova. However, in science, this, unfortunately, was the norm and caused great damage through the destruction of scientific schools in evolutionary genetics.

Any power is built from the elite, and the elite from parties. If the parties do not join, it is fraught with war, as was the case with the Kremlin with some Caucasian republics. Unfortunately, the continuation follows in many regions of the planet, because the elite party of the United States does not fit in with anyone, starting with its own people.

Elite in a person is something special. It is easily rotated when Dostoevsky’s trichinas come into play, chaotic human behavior and turning the masses into an uncontrollable force with turbulence and the destructive power of a tsunami. Then people without special talents with ambitions and the ability to lie irresponsibly enter the public arena. The Russian government behaved imperturbably and essentially gave the US elite carte blanche to continue and develop the same course. So Elena Kotova became a writer, based on a simple principle: “If you can’t survive, describe it.” How she flew away from London and what happened to her later in Kashchenko, everything is described.

Kotova lowered her status and ended up in a relatively safe stratum. Exposing these people to attacks is unprofitable. In addition, they behave within the necessary discipline, without bringing the matter to a divorce. They are not eager for positions in power. Specific slang and public position serve as a fairly powerful defense that dulls the vigilance of dangerous competitors. Rest abroad in Israel for them is really a rest from possible persecution.
