NOAA: 4-year-old whale belonging to one of the rarest species ‘likely to die’ after being caught in nets

In recent years, the world population of North Atlantic right whales has been decimated as a result of collisions with ships and entangling of ropes and nets. All this is connected with the person, writes CNN.
According to the Fisheries Division of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, a 4-year-old female whale became heavily entangled in nets off North Carolina. Zoologists believe that she is “likely to die.”
An aerial photography team from the Clearwater Marine Aquarium in Florida spotted the whale on January 8, with the female wearing several coils of line around her mouth and tail, and a queen line still trailing behind her.
The entanglement caused numerous wounds on the whale’s body and allowed tiny parasitic crustaceans known as whale lice to breed on her head.
Biologists say the whale “will probably die.
Scientists at the New England Aquarium, which maintains a North Atlantic right whale catalog tracking identification and sighting history of whales, identified the whale as No. 4904, the daughter of an adult female named Spindel (southern right whale No. 1204). Spindel was recently spotted with a new calf off the coast of St. Catherine’s Island, Georgia. The last known sighting #4904 was in May 2022 in Massachusetts Bay. These whales are on the verge of extinction.
