Japanese company Nintendo reportedthat on April 8, 2024, the online services of the 3DS and Wii U consoles will stop working. Users will lose the ability to play games online, and Internet ratings will no longer work.

SpotPass and Nintendo Badge Arcade will stop working, but StreetPass local connectivity will still work. The company said that it does not intend to deprive users of the ability to download patches or download previously purchased games.

The Nintendo Wii U was released from 2012 to 2017, and the Nintendo 3DS from 2010 to 2020. The Wii U only sold 13 million units, making it one of Nintendo’s least popular consoles. The 3DS sold over 75 million copies – it was a success for the company.

In 2024, according to information Media, Nintendo is going to release a successor to the Nintendo Switch console. The alleged Switch 2 will receive 12 GB of RAM, support for ray tracing and DLSS 3.1 from NVIDIA – this could make the device the only modern console that includes NVIDIA’s upscaling system.
