Nikkei named the reasons for Nintendo’s decision to postpone the launch of Switch 2 – Kommersant

The Japanese company Nintendo may release the Switch 2 game console no earlier than March 2025, so that the console will have more games available at launch. About it reports Japanese publication Nikkei, citing sources inside the company. Bloomberg also previously reported that the release of Switch 2 may be postponed to 2025.

Nikkei sources believe that the deadline could be pushed back even further if Nintendo deems the launch game readiness or console production speed to be insufficient. The company decided to take into account the mistakes of competitors who had a shortage of consoles at the start, for example, Sony in the first years after the release of the PlayStation 5 regularly faced problems with supplies to stores due to the semiconductor crisis. Xbox Series X|S was released without any console exclusives at launch, and now lags behind PS5 in sales by more than two times. The new Switch will retain the hybrid format, but the screen will be noticeably larger.
