A New Year’s blitz tournament took place in Veliky Novgorod at the Kremlin Chess Club. The Chess Federation of the Novgorod Region spoke about this.
52 chess players from Veliky Novgorod, Moscow, Leningrad and Murmansk regions took part in the competition. Following the results of the tournament, which consisted of 11 rounds, first place was won by Felix Kuznetsov from Novgorod, who scored 10 points.
Second place, with the same number of points, was taken by candidate master of sports Nikita Petrushev from Vsevolozhsk. Muscovite Dmitry Osetrov took the third step of the podium with 9 points.
In addition, Novgorodians Evgenia Satanovskaya and Mikhail Markov, who took fourth and fifth places, respectively, were awarded special prizes from the tournament.
The region’s Chess Federation also reported that on January 7, the Kremlin Club will host a Christmas rapid chess tournament, and on January 14, a blitz tournament will start in honor of the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Novgorod from the Nazi invaders.
