The year of the 555th anniversary of Cheboksary will also be marked by the appearance in the city of a number of large facilities that will be adapted for both mass sports and elite sports. All of them are being built by Chuvashia within the framework of the federal project “Sport is the norm of life”. Some of them will appear “from scratch”, and some will be radically updated as part of the reconstruction.

The latter, in particular, includes the legendary Volga Stadium, which was previously associated as a legendary, but modest arena with a football field. Now it will be a sports and recreation complex – with a 25-meter swimming pool, a shooting range, two universal gyms; There will also be gyms (three in total) and a weightlifting room. In addition to all this, the sports complex will also feature a renovated football stadium with artificial turf, and running tracks around the field. An indoor ice skating rink also appeared on the territory of the complex.

It is expected that in total more than 20 sports will be developed on the Volga territory. Among them is the national Chuvash wrestling: for this purpose the Kereshu Martial Arts Center will function.

The sports facilities of the stadium will become structural divisions of the Republican Sports School of Olympic Reserve No. 8 named after. E. Nikolaeva and Sports School No. 4.

The infrastructure of the Volga stadium will be strengthened by the appearance of a hotel (for 42 people), a cafe, and car parking (including for people with limited mobility).

An indoor skating rink with artificial ice will appear in the “New City” microdistrict for secondary school No. 4 of the Ministry of Sports of Chuvashia. Its construction was also carried out as part of the implementation of the federal project “Sport is the norm of life”. The facility will not be limited to the ice rink itself: locker rooms, a choreography room, a medical office, and skate rental facilities. Hockey, figure skating, and short track sections will be opened for young sports fans. The skating rink, however, will also be open for public skating.

Focused on the best

The construction of a roller ski track with a biathlon shooting range at the Winter Sports Center at the Olympic Reserve Sports School No. 2 of the Ministry of Sports of Chuvashia is nearing completion. Its opening is also expected in 2024. The Ministry of Sports of Chuvashia noted that before designing, the best roller ski tracks in Russia were studied – in Tyumen, Saransk, Rybinsk, Ufa, Khanty-Mansiysk. These cities, as a rule, regularly host the largest all-Russian (and before the sanctions, international) cross-country skiing and biathlon competitions. The potential of the Chuvash track to reach such a level was seen earlier by the President of the Russian Biathlon Union, Viktor Maigurov, who had previously become familiar with the progress of its construction. Moreover, he noted, Cheboksary is also attractive from a logistics point of view – due to the convenient geographical location of the city and the climate in the region.

The length of the route will be about 4 km, and not only skiers and biathletes, but also triathlon and cycling athletes can train at the facility itself.

The first indoor football arena in Cheboksary will appear on the basis of the reconstructed Trud stadium. It is noted that it is being built using funds from the republican budget.

According to the project, the arena will consist of two blocks, one for football, the second for administrative. The football field will be 40×60 m in size. The facility will also be adapted for people with disabilities.

Three in one

Meanwhile, this year the construction of the Aquatic Sports Palace will begin in Cheboksary. “It will become one of the first structures to receive approval from the Federation Council,” the Ministry of Sports of Chuvashia reported.

The palace will be located on the site of the Republican Sports School of Olympic Reserve No. 9 in swimming, which was left without a material and technical base. The building, which has become unsafe, has already been demolished, everything is ready for the construction of a new sports complex. It will be three-story and will accommodate not only swimming pools (50-meter, 25-meter and children’s), but also a gym, a choreography room, a sauna with a massage room, a conference room, a children’s playroom, and a medical block. Tribunes for spectators are included. The palace will also be adapted for people with limited mobility.
