Roskosmos has announced that the new Russian geostationary hydrometeorological satellite Elektro-L No. 4 has been launched into orbit. The satellite is capable of conducting multispectral imaging of the entire surface of the Earth, both in the visible, tact and in the infrared range.

The Proton-M rocket with a satellite launched today from the Baikonur Cosmodrome at 12:13. After 9 minutes 45 seconds, the upper stage with the satellite was launched into low earth orbit. Then, with the help of the engine of the upper stage, “Electro-L” was delivered to an orbit with a height of 35.4 thousand kilometers. Satellites will reach the geostationary orbit with a height of almost 35.8 thousand kilometers on their own.

It is assumed that the satellite will monitor the Pacific Ocean, as well as the Russian Far East.
