Kazakhstan is tightening the rules for the entry and stay of foreigners in the country. First of all, this will affect the Russians. Now citizens of the countries that are members of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) can stay in Kazakhstan for no more than 90 days within 180 days.
Last year, Kazakhstan received two waves of Russians. The first was in February-March, when people who did not support the Kremlin’s actions in Ukraine left the country en masse. Then – in September, after thousands of people fled from partial mobilization. According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Kazakhstan, over 6 million foreigners entered the country in 2022. Almost 3 million of them are Russians.
From January 27, citizens of Russia and other EAEU countries who do not have an employment contract in Kazakhstan, a temporary residence permit (TRP) or a residence permit (PRP) can stay in the republic for no more than 90 days. After that, they need to leave the country for 90 days, and only after that it will be possible to return again.
The innovation abolished the so-called “visaran”, which allowed one to stay in the republic for 90 days, after which they leave the country and immediately return back, at least the next day, for another three months. “The new rules will apply only to those who enter the country after January 27,” said Askar Aldongarov, a spokesman for the republic’s Interior Ministry. Therefore, if someone wants to “reset” the stay counter in the country, they must have time to leave and enter before this date.
Despite the changed rules, many Russians who have decided to leave their native country are not going to return. Some intend to legalize their stay by obtaining a residence permit, others are thinking of leaving for the required period to neighboring countries – Kyrgyzstan, Armenia or Georgia. In general, if you comply with all the norms of the law, then it is not so difficult to obtain registration in Kazakhstan. Among the documents: a copy and original of a Russian or foreign passport, a rental agreement, a certificate of good conduct, as well as a document confirming solvency.
