New flights of Russian airlines reported in Georgia

The Georgian Civil Aviation Agency reported that two more Russian airlines – Azimut and Red Wings – will soon begin operating flights to the country.
Azimuth Airlines has received permission to operate charter flights to Tbilisi from Mineralnye Vody, which will begin operating in the second half of October, once a week. Flights from Sochi to Tbilisi twice a week and from Moscow to Batumi will also be available.
Red Wings Airlines received permission to operate flights on the Zhukovsky – Tbilisi – Zhukovsky route, which will operate five days a week, starting on October 29.
It is important to note that flight permission is only issued to airlines that are not sanctioned by the European Union.
This decision to launch new flights became possible after a decree signed by Russian President Vladimir Putin on May 10, 2023, on the restoration of air traffic with Georgia, which was suspended in the summer of 2019. From May 15, the visa regime for Georgian citizens was abolished, which also contributes to the development of tourism flow between the countries.
