Anna Netrebko today appeared before fans on the stage of the Berlin Opera House for the first time in a year and a half. She performs the title role in Giuseppe Verdi’s Macbeth. The performance began at 20.30 Moscow time.

Pro-Ukrainian activists were unable to disrupt the speech. About 150 people gathered near the opera building and demanded that the Russian singer be removed from the stage. They chanted anti-Russian slogans and waved placards. However, their voices remained unheard.

But German fans were able to fully enjoy Anna Netrebko’s voice. The Berlin Opera announced back in August that it was renewing cooperation with the performer. They noted that the opera diva has not performed in Russia for a long time and has no plans to return there yet. So Netrebko is expected to perform at least four more performances in Berlin. In February last year, major world platforms refused to cooperate with the Russian performer. She was accused of having “too close relations” with Russian authorities.
