Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has apologized for his statement about Israeli security services, which he said knew about impending Hamas attacks on the Jewish state.
“I was wrong. What I said after the press conference should not have been said, and I apologize for that. I fully support all heads of law enforcement agencies. I support the Chief of Staff and the IDF commanders and soldiers who are at the front fighting for our home. Together we will win,” Netanyahu wrote on social media X.
On the evening of October 28, Netanyahu published a post in which he claimed that he had never received warnings about Hamas’ “military intentions,” notes The Times of Israel. The Israeli prime minister added that “all security services, including the head of military intelligence,” believed that Hamas wanted to “come to a settlement.” The post later disappeared from Netanyahu’s account.
The Palestinian group Hamas attacked southern Israel on October 7. The country’s Defense Forces (IDF) responded by launching Operation Iron Swords. Reuters wrotethat Hamas has been hiding its military plans for the past two years and convincing Israel that it does not want war and is interested in economic stability. An agency source close to the movement said the Palestinian group had used “unprecedented intelligence tactics” to mislead Israel in recent months. During the preparation, Hamas built a mock Israeli settlement in Gaza and practiced landing and assaulting troops there.
