Nebenzya: Israel has no right to self-defense as an occupying country

Israel has no right to self-defense because it is an occupying country. This was stated during the 10th emergency special session by the Permanent Representative of Russia to the UN Vasily Nebenzya, transmits “RIA News”.

He noted that the United States speaks of Israel’s right to self-defense, “although as an occupying power it does not have such a right, as confirmed by the advisory opinion of the International Court of Justice in 2004.” According to Nebenzi, the United States is a hypocrite because “in other situations” it calls for respect for humanitarian law and imposes sanctions.

The diplomat emphasized that Russia recognizes Israel’s right to ensure its security, and added that Israel’s security can only be fully guaranteed “if there is a fair solution to the Palestinian problem.” Nebenzya also called on Israel to fight terrorists rather than civilians. He added that Moscow stands for a ceasefire and working on a diplomatic solution to the conflict.

On October 12, at the summit of CIS leaders in Bishkek, Russian President Vladimir Putin statedthat Israel has been subjected to an attack of unprecedented brutality by the Palestinian group Hamas and has a right to protection. He also repeatedly emphasized that Moscow favors the creation of an independent state of Palestine with its capital in East Jerusalem.
