About 7 thousand people are enrolled in Russian universities on benefits for participants in a special military operation in Ukraine. This was announced by the Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation Dmitry Afanasiev. A total of 9,000 applications were submitted.
“The priority wave that ended yesterday included more than 6,000, even I would say closer to 7,000, those who were eligible,” Mr. Afanasiev said at a press conference (quoted by RIA Novosti). He clarified that “in general, everyone” who is eligible for preferential admission and submitted an application was accepted.
On May 9, 2022, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree on benefits for enrolling in universities for military children participating in a special military operation in Ukraine. The decree establishes the allocation of a quota of 10% of the total number of budget places “for each specialty or area of training.”
May 23 Ministry of Education and Science recommended Russian universities to support students who participated in the special operation, or their children. So, the department urged to provide them with material assistance, reduce the cost of education, provide installments to pay for education. In July, the Ministry of Education developed the procedure for the transition of participants in the special operation to free education in universities
