Navalny spoke about the “made life unbearable” cellmate in the ShIZO

Oppositionist Alexei Navalny said that a man “having big problems with household hygiene” was placed in a punishment cell. The convict considers such actions of the administration of the colony as pressure.

“If you live in a cell, and some person is 24/7 at arm’s length from you, and you are both one or two meters from the toilet 24/7, and the toilet is a hole in the floor, maintaining hygiene is absolutely fundamental . And a prisoner who is problematic in this sense will instantly make your life unbearable,” says Navalny on Instagram (owned by Meta, recognized as extremist in the Russian Federation and banned).

According to Alexei Navalny, his new cellmate “soon started knocking on the door himself and demanded to be transferred to another cell, and even wrote a statement.” Navalny added that “a combination of threats, screams and calls for conscience” forced his cellmate to wash his face and brush his teeth. “I gave him washing powder and he washed his clothes. We now wash our hands with soap several times a day,” the oppositionist wrote.

Since August, Navalny has spent most of his time in a punishment cell. On December 1, he was sent there for the eighth time in a row – for 11 days. In November, the conditions of detention tightened the policy – he sat in a chamber type room.

In February 2021, Navalny was sentenced to two years and eight months in prison in the Yves Rocher case. In 2022, he was sentenced to nine years under the article on fraud (part 4 of article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation) and insulting participants in the trial (part 1 and part 2 of article 297 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation). According to the oppositionist’s lawyers, nine years is the term for the totality of all punishments.
