The natural population decline in Russia in January-October decreased by 21.3% compared to the same period in 2022, to 394.6 thousand people. This follows from data Rosstat.
The number of children born in the nine months of this year amounted to 1 million 59.7 thousand, which is 3% less than last year. Meanwhile, the number of deaths decreased to 1 million 454.3 thousand (-8.7% year on year).
By data Rosstat, in October, the birth rate decreased by 0.7% compared to the same month in 2022, and the death rate increased by 2.3%. The infant mortality rate decreased by 6%. Natural population decline in October increased by 10%, to 42 thousand people.
According to forecasts Rosstat, from 2023 to 2027, the birth rate in Russia will decrease from 1 million 244.5 thousand babies to 1 million 140.4 thousand. The indicator will begin to grow in 2028. By the beginning of 2046, Rosstat expects, the country’s population will be 138 million people. As of January 1, 2023, 146 million people lived in Russia.
