The design of the Volkhov-Segezha-Kostomuksha gas pipeline has been completed. It is noted that after the completion of the construction of the gas pipeline, natural gas will come to the north of the republic for the first time. According to the authorities of the region, this will make the areas of the Karelian Arctic more attractive for residents and investors. The total length of gas pipelines to be built in Karelia will be almost 1,400 kilometers.
At the first stage of the construction of the facility, it is planned to lay an underground highway with a total length of about 239 km, which will run in the Leningrad Region and Karelia. This was reported in Gazprom Gas Distribution Petrozavodsk JSC. The second stage of construction involves the laying of an underground gas pipeline route with a total length of over 229 km in the Pryazhinsky, Kondopozhsky, Medvezhyegorsky and Segezhsky regions of Karelia.
The head of Karelia, Artur Parfenchikov, said on his social network page that five years ago, when the idea of building a main gas pipeline through Karelia to the Murmansk region was just being promoted, many were skeptical about this. Meanwhile, construction preparations will start this year. And by 2029, gas will come to the northern regions of the republic, in particular: Loukhsky, Kemsky and Belomorsky.
“For Karelia, a new gas pipeline, and its longest part will pass through our republic, means serious investments, taxes and high-tech jobs,” he said.
