NATO plans to start deploying more than 300,000 troops

At the NATO summit in Vilnius, the member countries of the alliance will adopt military plans to deploy more than 300,000 troops on their territory. Jens Stoltenberg, Secretary General of the alliance, announced this.

“The Alliance will accept the plan <...> to deploy over 300,000 troops backed by significant air and naval forces,” said the Secretary General (quote according to TASS).

On increasing the number of rapid reaction forces to 300,000 people Stoltenberg declared back in the summer of 2022 before the summit of the alliance. According to the NATO Secretary General, “we will strengthen our battle groups in the eastern part of the alliance to the level of brigades.”

On February 18, Stoltenberg said that a Russian victory in the Ukrainian conflict would be “extremely dangerous” for NATO, so it is necessary to continue to support Ukraine. The secretary general also believes that the countries of the alliance should prepare for confrontation with Russia: modernize their own armies, strengthen relations between European countries and the United States, and generally strengthen the “resilience” of Western society.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov later notedthat NATO countries are actually fighting on the side of Ukraine. First Deputy Head of the Presidential Administration of the Russian Federation Sergey Kiriyenko in the summer of 2022 declaredthat NATO will fight on the territory of Ukraine against Russia “to the last Ukrainian.”
