NATO official allowed Ukraine to cede part of the territories in favor of Russia for joining the alliance

The head of the office of the NATO Secretary General, Stian Jensen, admitted that Ukraine would give up part of the territories in favor of Russia, and in return receive membership in the alliance, reports the Norwegian tabloid Verdens Gang.

“I think the solution might be for Ukraine to give up territory and get NATO membership in return,” Jensen said during a televised debate. At the same time, according to him, allegedly “there is significant progress” in the issue of Ukraine’s future membership in NATO, and Kyiv itself must decide when and under what conditions it wants to negotiate.

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg refuses to comment on the settlement of the conflict in Ukraine.

Later, in the comments to the Norwegian edition, Jensen explained that the discussion of a possible post-war settlement was already underway, and other countries were also raising the issue of ceding territories. “I’m not saying it has to be. But it could be a possible solution,” he explained.

Ukrainian Foreign Ministry spokesman Oleg Nikolenko has already stated on his Facebook page (Meta is recognized as extremist in Russia and banned) that talk of Ukraine joining NATO in exchange for giving up part of the territories is “absolutely unacceptable.” “We have always proceeded from the fact that the alliance, like Ukraine, does not trade territories. The conscious or unconscious participation of NATO officials in shaping the narrative about the possibility of Ukraine abandoning its territories plays into the hands of Russia,” he said.

Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of Russia Dmitry Medvedev also reacted to the words of the head of Stoltenberg’s office in his Telegram channel. “The idea is interesting. The only question is that all allegedly their territories are highly controversial. And in order to enter the bloc, the Kyiv authorities will have to give up even Kyiv itself, the capital of Ancient Rus’. Well, they will have to move the capital to Lviv. During the July NATO summit in Vilnius, NATO member countries agreed that an invitation to join the alliance would be sent to Kyiv after all conditions were met and unanimous agreement was reached among all its members. In the near future, it will be possible to observe the apology of the NATO clerk, since such complex issues cannot be resolved by one formula, Denis Denisov, an expert at the Financial University under the Government of Russia, believes. If we consider the words of Jensen in essence, it becomes more and more obvious that this is a reaction to the stabilization of the front line. Ukraine does not have the resources for the advertised counter-offensive, the Russian army also does not make titanic efforts for its offensive, and as a result, hostilities are reduced to positional confrontation.

It should be stated, the expert continues, that Ukraine will not have enough funds to return the new regions of Russia to itself. At the same time, even in the case of territorial concessions, Ukraine’s membership in NATO is unlikely. According to Denisov, at the Vilnius summit, a clear signal was given to Kyiv that the alliance is not ready to accept Ukraine as a full-fledged member in the current conditions. Even in the case of a peace agreement based on territorial concessions, the likelihood of a conflict will remain high, and NATO is not ready to use the article on collective defense for the sake of Ukraine, Denisov sums up.
