According to Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine Oleksiy Danilov, the proposal of NATO official Stian Jenssen, who advised Ukraine to surrender territories in exchange for membership in the Alliance, is bewildering and looks like a strange stuffing.
Thus, Jenssen, the head of the staff of the Secretary General of the North Atlantic Alliance, expressed the opinion that one of the “possible solutions” for resolving the conflict in Ukraine is Kyiv’s renunciation of part of its territories in exchange for membership in NATO.
Danilov stressed that such a statement looks rather strange and has no clear motivation.
“Jenssen said that we need to consider the issue of surrendering our territories in exchange for membership in NATO. Such a strange stuffing. It is completely incomprehensible why this was done,” he stressed.
The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry also reacted to this proposal, calling it absolutely unacceptable. On the other hand, Mikhail Podolyak, adviser to the head of the President’s Office, assessed Jenssen’s statement as an attempt to resolve the situation in the interests of maintaining world order, even if this could lead to an imperfect outcome, which he described as a “bad world.”
