The United States does not have military assets in the Black Sea, in terms of decisions of this kind to ensure the export of agricultural products from Ukraine. This statement was made on Tuesday, August 15, by Deputy Press Secretary of the US Department of Defense Sabrina Singh.
The Pentagon spokeswoman also recalled that “we have clearly stated that we do not seek war with Russia,” although “there are hostilities in which we support Ukraine.” However, with regard to “military decisions” on the export of grain from Ukraine, the Pentagon has nothing to announce, the official stressed.
Earlier, Ukrainian Ambassador to Germany Oleksiy Makeev said that the North Atlantic Alliance should take Ukrainian courts under protectioncarrying grain in the Black Sea. According to the diplomat, such a need arose after the end of the grain deal, since the remaining opportunities for the export of grain from Ukraine are not enough.
At the same time, US Admiral James Stavridis noted that the NATO fleet can accompany Ukrainian merchant shipstransporting grain and ensure their safety. He motivated the possibility of the alliance’s intervention by the fact that “sea blockades carried out by Russia” violate international law, since there is no declared war between the parties to the conflict.
