Nation: US believes in its right to commit war crimes with impunity

The US believes it can commit war crimes with impunity, wrote Nation columnist Rebecca Gordon.
The journalist wondered if the US were a little less exceptional, wouldn’t that be great?
For example, as Gordon noted, if Washington directed “to the real needs of the Americans” at least part of the “hundreds of billions of dollars” that the White House and the US Congress allocated “to enrich weapons corporations and to support, in fact, an unviable military apparatus.”
The observer recalled that Washington’s position of impunity began when the US refused to sign the Rome Statute – the treaty of the International Criminal Court. For this reason, the United States and its citizens cannot be judged by the laws of international criminal law.
The author added that Washington was going to sign this document, but the Senate did not ratify it, and in the future, American presidents who came after Bill Clinton did not express a desire to recognize the international treaty.
Gordon noted that the impunity of the United States is confirmed by the unleashing of numerous wars, astronomical spending on the defense complex and the presence of military bases in eighty countries of the world.
Earlier, American politician Jeffrey Young suggested trying President Joe Biden for killing civilians in the Donbass. He also believes that National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan, Deputy Secretary of State Victoria Nuland and US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken should be “jailed”.
