About 20 classified documents were found in the possession of US President Joe Biden, transmits TV channel CBS, citing a source in law enforcement.

In particular, about 10 documents were found at the Center for Diplomacy and Global Engagement at the Biden University of Pennsylvania in Washington. Among them were documents containing top secret information. Leakage of top-secret information, as the channel notes, can cause “exceptionally serious damage.” Fewer than 10 other documents marked “secret” were found at Biden’s residence in Wilmington, Delaware. In total, about 20 classified documents are known to have been found in two locations, a source told CBS.

January 10 became known about the first portion of classified documents found in Biden’s possession. Back in November, the president’s lawyers found almost ten files from Biden’s 2009-2017 vice presidency in his office at the Center for Diplomacy and Global Engagement at Biden University of Pennsylvania in Washington.

As CNN noted, the documents contain materials about Ukraine, Iran and the UK, and they date from the period 2013-2016, when Biden served as vice president in the administration of Barack Obama. Republican House Intelligence Committee spokesman Mike Turner demanded a damage assessment in connection with the discovered documents. Biden himself said that he did not know the contents of the secret documents found.

January 12 White House informed about the discovery of several documents marked “secret” in the garage of the head of state’s house in Wilmington. On the same day, Republican Congressman Paul Gosar said that Republicans in the US Congress intend to investigate the discovery of these documents. This proposal was supported by the newly elected speaker of the US House of Representatives, Kevin McCarthy.

United States Attorney General Merrick Garland announced on the appointment of a special counsel who will investigate Biden’s mishandling of confidential government documents, Reuters reported.
