American space agencyNASA) published a photo of a massive star that is “preparing” to go supernova. It is reported that this is a rare cosmic phenomenon that has been filmed.
In the frame, the star WR 124 is in a short Wolf-Rayet phase, the process of dropping its outer layers, so characteristic halos of gas and dust form around it.
WR 124 is currently about 30 times the mass of our Sun and lies 15,000 light-years from Earth.
