IP addresses of users of new regions will become Russian

The Ministry of Digital Transformation instructed telecom operators in the new territories of Russia (DNR, LNR, Zaporozhye and Kherson regions) by March 15, 2023 to re-register the IP addresses used by users to Russian ones. At the same time, operators should check with the data of the international Internet registrar RIPE NCC and the MaxMind information system. Three employees of TV operators working in the republics told Vedomosti about this.

RIPE NCC is a non-profit organization dedicated to allocating and registering IP addresses for operators in Europe, the Middle East and Central Asia. Providers allocate resources for themselves or for their clients. Relevant information is published in the RIPE (whois) database. The database allows operators to find who is responsible for a particular block of IP addresses in case they need to contact them to troubleshoot routing problems. MaxMind displays information about the geographic location of users’ IP addresses.
