NASA Solar Dynamics Observatory showed photo of a solar flare peaking on March 3rd. NASA classified this event as an X2.1 flare.
Solar flares are powerful bursts of energy. They can interfere with high-frequency radio communications, electrical networks, navigation signals, and pose a danger to spacecraft and astronauts. Class A flares are the weakest, flares with increasing intensity are classified as B-class, C-class, M-class, and finally the most powerful as X-class. The number gives information about the strength of the flash.
