The launch to the moon of the Artemis 1 mission, which was scheduled in the US on Monday, has been postponed, should from a post on the NASA website.
“The launch director stopped today’s Artemis I launch attempt at approximately 8:34 am (15:34 Moscow time). The Space Launch System rocket and the Orion spacecraft are stable,” the message reads.
Experts have discovered that when refueling the launch vehicle of the Orion spacecraft, a hydrogen leak occurred. Then they began to search for the causes of the problems that had arisen, but it was not possible to quickly deal with what had happened.
The closest possible launch date is September 2nd. The flight will only take place if the engineers of the space agency can identify the causes of the hydrogen leak and eliminate them.
Artemis 1 is part of the American Artemis lunar program. The Orion spacecraft was supposed to spend about three weeks in space, including three days in the Moon’s retrograde orbit. In the subsequent Artemis 2 mission, it is planned to make the first manned flight of the Orion, and in the Artemis 3 mission, astronauts will land on the moon.
