Angus Cloud, the actor best known for his role on the HBO teen drama Euphoria, has died at the age of 25, his family confirmed on Monday.

Police say the cause of death is currently unknown and they have launched an investigation.

As it became known, the Oakland (California) police and the fire department responded to a call to the 911 service, made around 11:30 am Monday by the mother of Angus Cloud. She reported a “possible overdose” and said that Angus had no pulse. The young man was eventually pronounced dead at the scene.

Cloud’s publicist Kate Bailey said Cloud passed away on Monday at his family’s home in Oakland, California.

“It is with a heavy heart that we had to say goodbye to an incredible person today,” Cloud’s family said in a statement. The statement also revealed that Cloud’s father had recently passed away and the actor was “intensely struggling with the loss.”

“As an artist, friend, brother and son, Angus was special to all of us in many ways,” the family of the deceased said in a statement. “The only consolation we have is to know that Angus is now reunited with his father, who was his best friend. Angus has been open about his struggles with mental health and we hope his passing can be a reminder to others that they are not alone and should not be fighting this alone, in silence.”

A source close to the family tells us that Angus struggled with suicidal thoughts after returning from Ireland, where his father was buried, according to TMZ. The family has yet to say anything about the exact cause of the artist’s death, but they seem to suggest that it has something to do with his attempts to cope with the death of his father.

Cloud, originally from Oakland, rose to fame on Euphoria as drug dealer Fesco “Fes” O’Neill. He quickly became a fan favorite.

To some, Cloud seemed so natural in the role of Fez that they suspected he was identical to his character, a view the actor disputed.

Mason Shea Joyce, the actor who plays young Fez on Euphoria, said: “He was kind and supportive, never too busy to chat or cheer. It was an honor for me to play the young Fescoa.”

“We are incredibly saddened by the news of the passing of Angus Cloud,” HBO said in a statement. “He was immensely talented and a beloved part of the HBO and Euphoria family. We extend our deepest condolences to his friends and family at this difficult time.”

Cloud also had a supporting role in his first film, The Line, a college drama starring Alex Wolff and John Malkovich that premiered earlier this year at the Tribeca Film Festival.
