Most Russians have planned New Year trips in advance – 54 days in advance

On Monday, January 2, those who preferred to kill two birds with one stone went on New Year’s travels: celebrate the New Year traditionally, at home and with a Christmas tree, and still arrange a vacation for themselves. It is practically impossible to do this spontaneously: most of the popular destinations were booked long before the start of the holiday. MK found out where the travelers went this winter and when they organized it.

According to statistics provided by one of the popular travel planning services, residents of Okha, Novokuznetsk and Bratsk turned out to be the most prudent last year – they booked tickets, hotels and tours for the New Year holidays earlier than anyone else (74-68 days before the holidays). This is almost a month earlier than the national average – in most regions, residents began to think about vacation plans 54 days before the New Year, and the travel planning horizon increased (in 2021, trips began to be planned 35 days in advance).

On the one hand, this fact refutes the widespread opinion that, they say, 2022 has taught Russians not to think of anything even a month in advance, but on the other hand, we need to understand what exactly has changed in the reality around us. If the barriers of this year are predominantly political, social, psychological and financial, then in the 2021/2022 season our lives were ruled by the coronavirus pandemic and related restrictions.

Interestingly, Muscovites and St. Petersburg residents became the most average this year – they began to prepare for holiday trips this year almost simultaneously: 54 and 53 days, respectively.

As for travel destinations, everything is predictable: the most popular foreign destinations for New Year’s travel are Turkey, Armenia and Kazakhstan, and the most popular cities are Yerevan, Istanbul and Dubai. Among Russian cities, as in 2021, Moscow, St. Petersburg and Sochi are in the lead.

Without taking into account neighboring countries, the top destinations are Turkey, the United Arab Emirates, Egypt, Serbia and Israel, and from the cities – Istanbul, Dubai, Antalya, Tel Aviv and Belgrade.

Is it possible to organize a New Year’s trip spontaneously this year – say, if you just now decided that you still want to change the picture? It is possible and, surprisingly, not even too expensive. Prices for the rest of the holidays (five nights from January 3 to 8) at the Krasnaya Polyana ski resort start at 23 thousand for a simple hotel, and an air ticket from Moscow to Sochi on the same dates will cost 15-16 thousand rubles. In St. Petersburg, a win-win city for cultural leisure, prices for decent hotels inside the historical center on these dates start from 15-17 thousand, and you can get there by a convenient night train for about 7 thousand one way (in a compartment).

For those who at the last moment decided that they still want to swim in the sea and bask in the sun, there are still “burning” tours to Egypt. For example, five days in Hurghada in an all-inclusive hotel (with a departure on January 3) will cost 220-230 thousand rubles for two.
