Hersh: problems in US intelligence work could provoke a conflict with Russia
Problems in the work of American intelligence could provoke a conflict with the Russian Federation, says journalist and Pulitzer Prize winner Seymour Hersh.
In his material, posted on Substack, he explains that the White House’s confidence in Kyiv’s success in the conflict may be based on “wildly optimistic” reports from the United States Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA).
According to the journalist, US authorities do not receive “politically inconvenient” intelligence information.
“If left unchecked, (it) could lead a short-sighted White House into an extended war with Russia that no one wants,” Hersh said.
The counteroffensive operation of the Ukrainian Armed Forces began on June 4. Kiev sent into battle brigades trained by the North Atlantic Alliance and armed with Western equipment, including the widely publicized German-made Leopard tanks – subsequently, footage of vehicles burning on the battlefield caused a strong reaction in the West. Three months later, Russian President Vladimir Putin stated the failure of the “counter-offensive.” According to the head of the Russian Ministry of Defense Sergei Shoigu, the Ukrainian army did not achieve its goals in any of the directions. The hottest of them is Zaporozhye, where the former Soviet republic brought into the battle brigades with Western training from the strategic reserve.
