Muscovites were promised heavy snowfall on Epiphany

Unfavorable weather for Epiphany, which is celebrated on January 19, is predicted in many regions of the country in the Central and Volga Federal Districts. This forecast was presented by the scientific director of the Hydrometeorological Center of Russia, Roman Vilfand.

In Moscow, Moscow, Tula, Bryansk, Oryol and Kursk regions, heavy precipitation in the form of snow and sleet is predicted, the meteorologist said. At the same time, in the Tambov and Lipetsk regions, precipitation is likely in the form of rain.

Heavy snowfalls on the night of Epiphany are promised to residents of Tatarstan, Samara, Saratov, Ulyanovsk, Penza, and Orenburg regions. In the Krasnodar Territory on January 19, heavy rain and thunderstorms are expected both at night and during the day.

Leading specialist at the Phobos weather center, Mikhail Leus, said in his Telegram channel that the capital region was in the grip of the warm sector of the active Atlantic cyclone, which was named “Farima” by German meteorologists. Snowfalls and blizzards almost immediately became heavy, visibility according to weather stations in the region deteriorated to 400–600 meters, and wind gust speeds were 13–16 meters per second.

At night, the thermometer will rise and may reach zero degrees. But then a cold atmospheric front will cross the Moscow region, which will begin the process of lowering temperatures, accompanied by ice, Leus warned.

According to the forecast warning map on the official website of the Hydrometeorological Center of the Russian Federation, in Moscow and the Moscow region until 15:00 on Friday, January 19, there is a “yellow” level of weather danger due to snow, blizzards, snow drifts and ice.
