By the weekend, the height of snowdrifts in the capital region will reach a record 40-50 centimeters. Roman Vilfand, scientific director of the Russian Hydrometeorological Center, warned about this on Tuesday, December 12.

The meteorologist said that on the remaining working days of the week, from December 13 to 15, it will snow in Moscow. The most difficult situation is predicted for Friday: heavy snow, blizzards, wind speed up to 17 meters per second, snow drifts on the roads.

At the same time, Vilfand urged not to wait for the “snowfall of the century,” since such precipitation, as expected in the coming days, “has already happened a lot this century.”

Earlier, Tatyana Pozdnyakova, leading specialist of the Meteo-news information portal, warned that December will also be unstable in temperature, like November. At the beginning of the last ten days of the month, a decrease in temperature is expected, but it will be short-lived – on New Year’s Day the weather will be close to the climate norm.

At the same time, Roman Vilfand said that Moscow residents will celebrate the upcoming New Year with snow. He noted that snow cover will remain in the capital in the coming months, but nothing more specific can be said about weather conditions yet.
