MTS will create its own 4G and 5G base stations

The subsidiary of MTS Irteya will create 4G/5G base stations for mobile communications with an open architecture of OpenRAN. The company is going to allocate 5.6 billion rubles for the development of telecom equipment. and receive another 5.4 billion in budget funding from 2023 to 2026. These indicators are included in the roadmap “Modern and promising mobile networks” for the period up to 2030. The document is at the disposal of Vedomosti, its authenticity was confirmed by two sources in a specialized telecom association and equipment manufacturer.

This roadmap has been developed by the government on behalf of the president since 2022. In December last year, the first version of the document was presented, it stated that Russian telecom equipment should be put into commercial operation in 2025, and from 2028 it will be possible to use only Russian stations. Since the beginning of 2023, the document has been finalized. In particular, in July, Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin signed a decree on an additional allocation of 3.5 billion rubles. for the development of mobile base stations. The version of the document reviewed by Vedomosti is dated August 29 this year. The final version of the roadmap should be approved in mid-September, said one of the newspaper’s interlocutors.
