Russian citizens should be allowed to use maternity capital as a bank deposit, since more than 20% of them do not find ways to implement them. Such an initiative was made by Yana Lantratova, First Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Education, a deputy from the Just Russia – Patriots for Truth party. Mrs. Lantratova sent a corresponding appeal to Deputy Prime Minister Tatyana Golikova, they write “News”.

“According to the available statistics, 20.7%, or 0.55 trillion rubles. recipients of maternity capital, do not find a suitable opportunity to dispose of funds in a targeted manner, which generates additional costs for their indexation, ”leads the publication of an excerpt from the document.

In the appeal, the parliamentarian draws attention to the fact that at the end of 2022, about 96.2 billion rubles were spent on indexing this amount. In this regard, Ms. Lantratova considers it expedient to expand the use of maternity capital and provide families with the opportunity to place them on long-term deposits for a period of five years. It should also allow the prolongation of such deposits and the receipt of interest income on them. In the event that citizens refuse to extend the term of the deposit, provision should be made for the return of funds back to the Social Fund of Russia.

According to Yana Lantratova, such measures will make it possible to offset the decline in cash income for Russian families and index them in subsequent years. In addition, the state will be able to save tens of billions of rubles on indexation, which in turn will increase the stability of the banking sector.

The mother capital program has been operating since 2007 for families with the birth or adoption of a second child or subsequent children. Since 2020, the program has been extended to families in which one child was born or adopted. The measure of support can be used to improve housing conditions, education of the child, social rehabilitation of children with disabilities and other assistance.

Since February 1, 2023, maternity capital has been indexed in Russia. Thus, its size amounted to 586.9 thousand rubles. for the first child and 775.6 thousand rubles. for the second. It was indexed to the actual inflation rate of 11.9%.
