The Second Court of Appeal of General Jurisdiction in St. Petersburg rejected the appeal of the Vesna movement (recognized as extremist and banned in the Russian Federation, included in the list of foreign agents) to assign the association the status of an extremist organization.
In the movement itself, they said that from now on they are freezing the reception of activists from Russia, and also turning off donations. In addition, the organization will refuse to hold shares on the territory of the Russian Federation and remove its symbols from printed materials. At the same time, Viasna activists do not intend to give up their convictions and promise to continue their work.
Movement “Spring” was included to the register of organizations in respect of which there is information about their involvement in extremist activities or terrorism in October 2022. The prosecutor’s office of St. Petersburg petitioned for the inclusion of the movement in this list. According to the supervisory authority, “Spring” creates conditions for destabilizing the social and socio-political situation in Russia, and also “forms public opinion about the need for a change of power in the Russian Federation.”
