The mayor of Gelendzhik canceled the traditional carnival, which had been held for half a century
The head of Gelendzhik, Alexei Bogodistov, announced the cancellation of the city carnival, which had been held in the city in early June for many decades. According to him, in 2023 there will be no “carnival in the format familiar to our guests”.
“Now we live in such a time that there is no time for wide festivities,” – added official.
For the first time, the Gelendzhik carnival took place in the early summer of 1939 and was dedicated to the 20th anniversary of Lenin’s decree on the creation of resorts. During the war years and over the next three decades, the barely born tradition of the holiday was forgotten, but in the mid-1970s, the carnival began to take place again in Gelendzhik. Traditionally, the festive procession moves along the embankment in the city center, the end point of the route and the center of the entertainment program is the Central Square near the sea terminal building.
