In the first half of 2023, Moscow residents and guests began to visit restaurants, bars and cafes 36% more often than during the same period in 2022. This was reported RBC in Mosturizm based on data on payments on Sberbank cards. During this period, the turnover of the capital’s establishments increased by 27% year-on-year, to 294 billion rubles.
The average bill in Moscow restaurants, cafes and bars was 1.3 thousand rubles. At the same time, the average tourist check exceeded this amount by 30%, up to 1.7 thousand rubles. Spending by tourists in 2022 was also higher than that of Muscovites.
In 2022, tourists in Moscow spent 50% more in mass establishments, and 10-15% more in high-end restaurants. An RBC source in the restaurant market believes that the increase in the number of transactions observed by Sberbank is associated with the growing popularity of non-cash payments and the whitening of business.
