Human Rights Commissioner Tatyana Moskalkova reported that with the assistance of her office, 400 people were demobilized. All of them were called up for service, despite the reasons for the delay.
“We received a huge number of requests that those who should not have been drafted were called up. Those who had four children had illnesses that allowed them to grant a deferment. There were more than 400 such demobilizations through my line alone, and I am grateful to both the military prosecutor’s office and the Ministry of Defense for being involved very quickly and clearly,” Tatyana Moskalkova said at the Council of Commissioners for the Central Federal District (quoted by TASS).
She did not specify during what period these citizens were demobilized. In December 2022, Tatyana Moskalkova spoke about 200 cases of erroneous mobilization, in which it was canceled thanks to her appeals.
As Tatyana Moskalkova previously explained, current legislation does not provide for demobilization due to the unreasonableness of conscription for military service. According to her, in most cases, demobilization was carried out by canceling the decision of the draft commission on conscription on the recommendation of the prosecutor’s office.
In this regard, Tatyana Moskalkova recommended clearly stating in the law the grounds and procedure for the demobilization of citizens in the event that they were called up for military service by mistake. To do this, it is necessary to update the laws on mobilization and military service.
