Moscow students for the first time created a play in collaboration with artificial intelligence

The machine came up with the words for Nemirovich-Danchenko

The first theatrical play in Russia, written with the participation of artificial intelligence, was presented to the public on Thursday by students from the University of MISIS.

The play entitled “Life in Art” was written with the assistance of theater workers, who relied on real events. There are only two characters in it: directors Konstantin Stanislavsky and Vladimir Nemirovich-Danchenko.

As MK was told at the institute, the neural network – the NeuroStanislavsky play generator – is the development of students who decided for the first time in the country to write a play using artificial “mind” (previously, the machine brain “shone” only when creating music or pictures).

The developers of the neural network decided not to give the machine all the reins of power – their artificial intelligence does not replace the author, but only helps him to create, finding interesting storylines. It is curious that she “studied” on the works of Russian classics – Ostrovsky, Chekhov, Gorky and others. She “mastered” 14 thousand dialogues from several dozen works.

Recently, they decided to test it in practice: together with NeuroStanislavsky, they recorded a short play about the founders of the Art Theater, the great reformers of the stage art Stanislavsky and Nemirovich-Danchenko. We are talking about the historical meeting of two artists in the capital’s restaurant and their conversation about the transformation of the world theater. First, the director Yaroslav Shevaldov wrote a fragment of this trial work, and then the neural networks were offered to supplement the text based on previously obtained “knowledge”.

Electronic “Stanislavsky” fell into the style of the written text with almost one hundred percent clarity. For example, he showed knowledge about the situation of the theater at the time described, about the character of Konstantin Sergeevich and his love for art. Sometimes, creating their dialogues for the real author, he even used a worders – the particle “s” at the end of the word, which was used by our ancestors in the old Russian language. For example, in the mouth of Nemirovich-Danchenko, the artificial brain put the following lines about the theater that he considered ideal: “There is nothing rude and vulgar in it, sir.”
