Moscow State University will not abandon undergraduate studies – Kommersant

Moscow State University will retain five to six years of education with a specialty, said the rector of the university, Viktor Sadovnichy. According to him, MSU will not refuse the bachelor’s degree, as it is acceptable in a number of areas of training. Bachelor’s graduates, as before, will be able to enter the master’s program in another specialty.

Mr. Sadovnichy said that Moscow State University put forward the idea of ​​an integrated magistracy. It implies that the student studies in one direction both in the bachelor’s degree (four years) and in the master’s degree (two years), and as a result receives a full six-year education.

“At Moscow State University, 95% of bachelors choose an integrated master’s program, although they have the opportunity to switch to other areas. It is also important to take into account the fact that many foreigners study at Moscow State University, for whom it is preferable to receive a diploma in four years, ”the rector explained to RIA Novosti.

In June 2022 at the Ministry of Education and Science declaredthat all Russian universities were excluded from the Bologna process. The Russian authorities decided to abandon the Bologna system (which implies the division of the educational process into four years of bachelor’s and two years of master’s degree) and create their own. Ministry of Education and Science supported the idea to get away from studying in a master’s program with a non-core bachelor’s degree.
